Injury Monitoring and Surveillance

As one of the six National Health Priority Areas, injury is recognised as a leading cause of both premature death and hospitalisation. Its impact in terms of human and monetary cost is immense. Many aspects of injury monitoring and control require more detailed, timely and reliable data than available at present. The AIHW National Injury Surveillance Unit (NISU) is responsible for ensuring that information necessary for injury control is available to those who need to use it.
