Both meningitis and epiglottitis can develop quickly and, if left untreated, can rapidly cause death.

Symptoms include severe headache, stiff neck, convulsions or seizures, severe drowsiness, difficulty waking up, loss of consciousness or difficulty with breathing. Seek urgent medical attention if you think your child has any symptoms. All children under five years of age should be immunised against Hib.
