The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme has been put in place to help Queenslanders access specialist medical services, which are not available in their local area. Where these specialist services are not available within 50 kilometres of the nearest public hospital, the Scheme offers assistance by providing a contribution towards the cost of transport and accommodation. Queensland Health administers the Scheme through its network of public hospitals.
