The Hon Nicola Roxon has just launched the RU OK? Initiative that aims to lower Australia’s suicide rates. The main message is to communicate and connect with people by simply asking “Are you OK?” It also aims to promote awareness of information and support by raising the profile of existing organisations that provide these services.
The inaugural RU OK? Day will be held on November 29. Minister Roxon said, “Asking this simple question really can save a life, so I encourage all Australians to think about friends, family, colleagues, and even acquaintances, and ask – “Are you OK?” There is support available for someone who may not be OK. They can contact one of the many support organisations or go online to seek help.”
